Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training is a teaching qualification that includes a mandatory teaching/training requirement. It is an “in-service qualifications for those who are employed or planning to work as trainers or teachers in England. Every learner must be able to access 100 hours of classroom instruction. There is a minimum of eight hours of observation which must total at least eight hours.
The purpose in the level five Diploma for education and Training qualification is to provide the student with the foundational knowledge, understanding, and skills required to demonstrate the competence of their job. This includes the preparation and delivery of plans of working and sessions, setting individual objectives, various methods for teaching and learning as well as communication and understanding the use of a variety of assessment techniques. In addition, optional courses are offered to allow the student to study areas of interest to their teaching job.
It is the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training is suitable for tutors, teachers and lecturers, trainers and instructors who are working in the context of an FE school, Adult and Community Learning Centre. Learning Providers or instructors who deliver work-based education for example, in private, community, voluntary and public institutions.
This certification is only appropriate to teach learners aged 14 or over.
Quality, Standards, and Recognition
Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training is recognized and is regulated in the hands of Ofqual (Office of Examiners and Qualifications Regulation).
The Education Training Foundation has approved the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training to be accredited. The students who have completed this course are eligible to advance towards the level that is QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills)
Status of QTLS (Qualified Teachers Learning and Skills) status is the mark of professionalism in post-14 education and training. It helps professionals advance their careers, and show off their knowledge and expertise to their employers, colleagues, and students
This is done by a separate process known as professional formation. It is managed through the Society for Education and Training (SET) which is the professional body for people employed as teachers and trainers in the field.
Requirements for entry
To be eligible for the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training qualification, candidates must:
Possess a relevant occupational or academic qualification that is at least the same level as the level of their students and, ideally, a minimum Level 3 qualification within their own specialization.
Get access to 100 hours of teaching practice during which the students are fully responsible in preparing, delivering and evaluating specific areas of the institution’s offerings.

The centres must ensure that the students are selected according to their ability to complete the course, as well as proving that they satisfy the following minimum requirements:
Can communicate in a clear and precise manner to satisfy the requirements of their education
Don’t have a criminal history that could hinder them from working as a teacher working with children or other vulnerable adults
The Centre must show evidence that the staff who provide the qualification are at a minimum
A qualification in teaching equivalent to the level 5 or above;
Experience of teaching that is relevant in an educational or training context;
Access to the appropriate assistance and guidance; and
Continuous participation in related programme process of quality assurance.
Equivalences
Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training Level five Diploma in Education and Training qualification is comparable with an equivalent Certificate of Education (CertEd). It’s also a great option to replace an Postgraduate Certificate in Education. This Diploma at Level 5 for Education and Learning allows applicants to seek QTLS status and to become an accredited teacher. Teachers who have QTLS are also able to instruct in school.
Structure of qualification
This Level five Diploma in Education and Training qualification is comprised of four mandatory units as well as 8 optional units and 1200 hours total qualification time (TQT) as well as the suggested Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for this qualification is at least 360. The maximum number of hours of guided learning are determined by optional units chosen.
In order to earn an Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training students need to earn at least 120 credits. The remaining 75 credits are required from the compulsory units of Group A. They must also earn at least 45 credits from the elective units of Group B.
Minimum of 61 credits has to be completed at Level 5 (therefore the minimum requirement of six credits that are optional must be earned at the Level 5)
The student must satisfy the criteria before we are able to confer the certificate, i.e. attain the necessary obligatory and optional units in addition to completing the practicing in the classroom.

Delivery and duration
The degree is intended to be taught over an academic year, allowing for full-time studies however, it is adaptable in its teaching to allow for the needs of students with part-time or distance learning.
The training is conducted face-to face via seminars, tutorials, lectures and distance learning. It is also available online through accredited centers only.
Evaluation and verification
Each unit in this qualification are assessed internally by the centre, and externally checked. The qualifications are criterion-referenced by the achievement of all of the learning outcomes.
To be able to achieve a “pass” in a particular unit, learners have to provide proof that they have met all learning outcomes and have met the standards set out by the assessment criteria. A decision on whether the learners have met the required evaluation criteria is taken by an Assessor.
This qualification is evaluated using a combination of tasks as well as the portfolio of teaching evidence and the observation of teaching or training. Teaching simulation is not allowed in this level of qualification.

Since this qualification is endorsed and controlled in the hands of Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator) The learners are eligible to be able to take on relevant qualifications at a higher grade.
