Don’t be caught in a lift! Lift servicing is essential.
You will have likely heard horror stories about lifts breaking down. This leaves passengers trapped until an engineer or fire brigade arrives to free them.
We know first hand what it takes to fix a lift that has stopped working. Even if there is no one in the lift, it can be a major headache for business owners. It can also have serious ramifications on the business’s ability to continue operating.
Good news! Lift breakdowns can be avoided or reduced by knowing the importance and importance of lift maintenance and servicing. Let us explain…
Keep everyone safe
Depending upon the industry you work in, your lifts may be used for a variety of reasons.
It’s possible that customers who come to your business in a pushchair, or with a wheelchair will use the lift. To be efficient, you may need to move stock or other materials between floors. Again, the lift will be required.
Your lifts should be serviced regularly to reduce potential safety issues. In extreme cases, passengers can be injured or killed by a malfunctioning lift. This is both tragically and totally avoidable.
Staying within the laws (LOLER).
Did you know that employers that provide lift equipment at work must adhere to certain rules?
There are two main rules that should be followed when it comes to lift maintenance.
LOLER (Lift Operations and Lifting Device Regulations 1998) imposes duties upon individuals and businesses who own, control or manage lifting equipment. This is done through regular inspections (once per 6 months for passenger transport and once per year for nonpassenger carrying lifts), of similar vehicles M.O.T, which are then documented via LOLER examination reports.
This regulation, PUWER (Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998), ensures that there are no risks to workers’ health or safety. These equipment must be fit for purpose and safe to use according to LOLER requirements. They also need safety precautions and should only be used by qualified personnel who are familiar with the equipment.
If you do not adhere to these regulations, you will be considered an illegal act and face serious consequences. This can all be avoided if you take regular action. Contact us if you have concerns that your lifts might not comply with these regulations. We will be happy to help ensure your lifts meet the requirements.
The money side of the equation
Regular servicing of the lifts will ensure that any issues that might arise can be addressed quickly to avoid them becoming a bigger problem. A small issue that may seem minor can become a major problem that causes the lift to stop working for long periods of time.
Would you rather wait to find out what was wrong with your car or get it fixed right away?
Small problems can lead to greater expenses later on. We’ve yet to meet any business that would like that. Lift servicing is an excellent investment that can prevent costly repairs and help ensure safety for the users.
